Galway Go Club is a free, beginner-friendly club for the board game Go, also called Weiqi or Baduk, meeting every Tuesday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Cadell, 31 Woodquay, Galway, Ireland (Eircode H91 P5K8). The club moved here in July 2026 from McSwiggans, just across the road. There is no fixed start time and no booking — people drift in from around 5:30 pm onwards. Attending is free; most people buy a tea, coffee or a pint from the venue. Complete beginners are taught the basics in a few minutes and are usually playing their first game within ten minutes. The club keeps 9x9 boards for learning and 19x19 boards for longer games, and welcomes all strengths from absolute beginners to dan-level players. Regulars coordinate in a WhatsApp group (ask on the night to be added), and the Irish Go Association Discord has a Galway channel.
